Hope after the cyclone in Madagascar

When a devastating cyclone struck Madagascar, thousands of families lost homes, possessions, and a sense of security. Children were among those most deeply affected. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, HiKidz was able to respond quickly. Approximately €20,000 was sent to provide emergency relief, support families, and begin rebuilding homes and community facilities.

During a visit to Madagascar, Rob Hondsmerk encouraged the local team and provided practical training for volunteers who continue serving children every day under difficult circumstances. Healing involves more than rebuilding houses. Many children experienced fear and trauma during the disaster. To help them process these experiences, the local HiKidz team started a children's choir. Despite limited resources, the children practiced enthusiastically and together recorded a beautiful song accompanied by a music video. It became a powerful expression of hope, joy, and resilience.

One of the schools supported by HiKidz, serving around 270 children, was severely damaged by the cyclone. While we are incredibly grateful that sponsorship has already been secured to continue providing daily meals for the coming year, significant repairs are still needed. We are now looking for partners who would like to help restore the roofs of the classrooms, so children can continue learning in a safe environment.

The recovery process is far from over, but together we continue investing in hope, healing, and a brighter future for the children of Madagascar.
