What children say:

“This was one of the best weeks of my life; there was no difference between kids and all of us played, smiled and learned beautiful things together.” (a Gypsy boy who had previously suffered a lot from rejection)

“I heard about this camp from my friends who said how nice it is to be in a Christian camp.  The bedroom and bed were so nice! The food was excellent and we had 4 meals every day.  I loved to play with the other children.  We went on trips into the forest and the quarry.  We sang around the camp fire and did dramas. The teaching from the Bible helped me to understand better what we learned at school about Jesus and God. I would love to go back to Moneasa next summer.”

“I have 7 brothers and sisters. Only my father earns a living. The camp I attended this summer was very nice. We had very good food and I also enjoyed the games, songs, and especially the Bible lessons. I made good friends there. I hope to come again next year and bring one or two of my younger siblings.”

“What I liked the most at camp were the Bible lessons and the Christian songs we sang around the campfires. They brought a lot of joy to our hearts.”

Background:

Due to its location, Romania was, throughout its history, invaded and occupied by the neighboring nations migrating through the area, including by the Roman, Ottoman, and Austrian empires.

In the aftermath of WWII, Romania, like other Eastern European nations, fell under the Soviet domination. From 1965 till 1989, the country was ruled by Nicolae Ceausescu, who commonly used brutal force to suppress all opposition. The corruption, terror and human rights violations that were rife under his regime came to an end when he was executed in 1989. The Soviet empire collapsed soon thereafter, and Romania took steps towards independence and free market economy.

However, half a century of communist control and Ceausescu’s totalitarian rule left this historically and culturally wealthy nation economically very poor
